The 411 on Bikini Waxing
Even though the official kickoff to summer isn't until Memorial Day weekend, our Senior Estetician (and resident waxing expert), Bergan Cole. says that winter is the perfect time to get "bikini ready!"
There are many benefits to waxing. For starters, waxing last longer than does shaving. Waxing removes the entire hair from the root, resulting in hair-free skin for weeks. In contrast, shaving cuts the hair at the skin's surface. only leaving you hair free for a couple of days. Waxing allows your skin to remain smooth and hair free for much longer periods of time, enabling you to kick those cumbersome razors to the curb!
Still not persuaded? Here are some additional benefits to waxing as opposed to shaving:
Reduce Irritation- Shaving causes unsightly razor bumps and rashes which typically result in mild discomfort. However, if done correctly, waxing is relatively painless and will leave your skin smooth and without irritation.
Finer Regrowth- Unlike shaving, a waxing regimen results in finer hair growth. Shaving is akin to thrimming your split ends; a short-term solution that causes hair to grow back thicker. This is ideal for the hair on your head, but not so great for areas of unwanted hair. Because waxing removes the entire hair from the follicle root, an entirely new hair is forced to grow back . This regrowth will be much thinner and take much longer to grow.
Permanent Hair Removal- If you wax long enough you will notice that your hair grows back, not just slower, but thinner and finer as well. As mentioned previously, waxing removes the entire hair from the follicle root, not just part of it. Over time, this process weakens hair follicles and results in permanent damage to the follicle. While follicle damage is not typically positive, it is the desired outcome when you are trying to eliminate the regrowth of unwanted hair.
If you want to have perfectly smooth bikini line all summer long and not have to worry wih rashes, razor bumps, and embarrassing hair peeking through your swimsuit, a waxing regimen with a highly- trained Esthetician is the solution!
Here are some helpful tips in preparation for your first bikini wax:
- Let your hair grow! It is best to have at least three weeks of hair growth prior to treatment to ensure that all of your hair is in the same stage. If you come in with short hair that is in different growth cycles, you will not achieve optimal results.
- If you are worried about the pain, pop some Tylenol an hour prior to your service
- Exfoliate the treatment area the night before your appointment with a body scrub or loofah sponge, and repeat 24-48 hours afterwards to avoid the possibly of ingrown hairs.
- Wear loose fitting clothing to your appointment. Anything too tight can irritate the treatment area and cause a suboptimal reaction.
